Dyslexic friendly Portable book readers
There are several great options available when researching portable mainstream book readers. The bookreaders on this page are mainstream, but are dyslexic friendly. If you are interested in an electronically book reader, then take a look at the Kindle, iPad/iPod/iPhone (latest Generation). Kindle is a mainstream book reader with a text-to-speech feature, which is a great book reader for dyslexic readers. It is very affordable and the text-to-speech feature not only works on books, but on magazines and newspapers as well. The only drawback with the Kindle is that Amazon gave the Book Publishers the right to turn off the text-to-speech feature. I have a Kindle that I use frequently but I make sure that the books that I order have the text-to-speech feature activated.
Keep your eye on the iPad, iPhone, iPod, as these devices will soon become popular in the dyslexic community. This book reader has a basic text-to-speech feature built-in called “voiceover”, which can help many people with dyslexia. The reason why the iPad/iPod/iPhone will do well among people with dyslexia is because Bookshare will soon release their app for iPads, iPod, iPhones. Most likely, the Bookshare app will have a text-to-speech feature and you can enjoy reading Bookshare books on it. This app is only available for Bookshare members.
